Josue Proano

I build things people actually use.

I'm Josue — a full-stack engineer who's been on the forefront of iOS at a healthcare startup since day one. As the sole iOS engineer, I owned the native app — now serving 16,000+ users. Then I kept going — picked up Rails, drove AI adoption across the org, shipped a BI platform nobody asked me to build, contributed to open source, and got promoted in a year.

Always building, always learning.

2023

The Beginning

I joined CloseKnit Health as a junior iOS engineer with something to prove. From day one I was the only person working on iOS — the app is built on Hotwire Native with Rails powering the views, and I owned everything on the native side end-to-end. Eight months in, the app was live — a month ahead of deadline.

A year in, I earned a promotion to mid-level.

Going Deeper

Led the development of chat on the mobile side and drove the web-mobile UX patterns to make it feel seamless across platforms. Led the V1 app phase-out and migrated iOS to a modern architecture. Started learning Rails because I wanted to understand the full picture — not just my corner of it.

Built testing standards for iOS from the ground up — Rails had them, mobile didn't.

2025

Full Stack, Full Send

iOS. Android. Rails. AI. I wanted all of it. Delivered HIPAA security hardening end-to-end, built features for the Athena EHR integration, and got rated Above Target for driving AI adoption across the entire engineering org — formalized Copilot standards in the repo, gave a company-wide prompt engineering talk, and built an internal AI chatbot demo for the whole team. I didn't just use AI. I made the team better at it.

Also championed and shipped Metabase on my own initiative — gave non-technical stakeholders their first live window into app data. And started contributing to Hotwire Native open source with merged PRs.

I'm obsessed with growing — professionally and in every other direction. I train week in and week out for mountaineering trips because the discipline it takes to summit a mountain is the same discipline it takes to ship great software: show up, do the work, don't quit when it gets steep.

When I'm not moving, I'm deep in a technical book or down a rabbit hole learning something new. I don't do idle. The person I am at work is the same person on the mountain — relentless, curious, and always climbing. That's just how I'm wired.

Let's build something together.

I'm always down for a good conversation — side projects, ideas, or just talking shop.
